2010 is a particularly important year full of events at Casalgrande Padana, since it celebrates its first 50 years of business, half a century during which it has undergone an extraordinary development enabling it to play a major role at international level. It is a great achievement that the company plans to fully enhance by strengthening its commitment to the research and development of products and solutions capable of meeting the emerging needs in terms of architecture and design at international level. These sectors have always provided the basic reference point for the development strategies of the company, such as proven by the numerous cultural initiatives promoted and supported by Casalgrande Padana over the last 50 years. Above all, the Grand Prix contest was launched in 1990 and today is considered one of the most accredited international events in the sector of ceramic design. Consistently with this vision aimed at integrating production and design trends, Casalgrande Padana celebrated its 50th anniversary by organising a series of very stimulating events addressing the world of architecture and design, involving Kengo Kuma as a very important endorser. Casalgrande Ceramic Cloud plays a leading role, as a permanent feature between architecture and terrotory designed by Kuma himself and built close to the industrial site of the company. The work by the Japanese architect - his first in Italy - was also the heart of a second important cultural event held during the Settimana milanese del Design, from 13th to 25th April, at Università degli studi di Milano, which saw Casalgrande Padana among the main players of Interni Think Tank, thanks to a stimulating installation. Moreover, against the impressive background provided by the Interior design exhibition in the university halls, on that occasion Kuma gave a lecture inside the Main Hall, and finally was present at the awarding ceremony of the Grand Prix 2007-2009, the eighth edition of the international architecture contest promoted by Casalgrande Padana. Always within Fuori Salone 2010, Casalgrande Padana, in collaboration with Studio 5+1 AA, participated in the collective exhibition involving member companies of Confindustria Ceramica, organised at Triennale di Milano: Ceramic Tiles of Italy - Playground envisaged a selection of innovative proposals and products inspired by games, leisure and a sustainable city. This issue of “Percorsi in ceramica” closes with some highlights:two important international prizes were recently awarded to Casalgrande Padana, and, above all, Franco Manfredini was appointed Cavaliere del Lavoro, an acknowledgement crowing 50 years or professional, entrepreneurial and business activities, i.e. the same history as Casalgrande Padana.
