This edition of Percorsi in Ceramica is all about the partnership between Casalgrande Padana and architectural practice TAMassociati, which has been defined by an ongoing, shared commitment to designing and creating for the common good. The two organisations came together for the first time in 2011, teaming up on the 2x2x2 sulle vie del Sud installation at the Ceramics of Italy. Metamorfosi exhibition at the prestigious Triennale di Milano museum and months later at Cersaie in Bologna (see Percorsi in Ceramica 23). The project moved away from the concept of a temporary installation towards one of social benefit and environmental sustainability. At the end of the exhibition, the Bios Antibacterial Ceramics® used were donated for the renovation of the A&E department at Emergency’s Surgical and Paediatric Centre in Goderich, Sierra Leone. Perhaps the best testament to the success of our collaboration with TAMassociati is provided by some of the vital cultural projects and initiatives we have worked together on. For example, Casalgrande Padana has provided ceramics for Emergency’s Salam Hospital in Khartoum and the Paediatric Centres in Bangui, in the Central African Republic, and Nyala, in South Darfur. Casalgrande Padana also recently sponsored the Italian Pavilion at the 15th Biennale di Venezia International Architecture Exhibition. Curated by TAMassociati, the Pavilion’s theme was “Taking Care” – we spoke at length about this in the previous edition of Percorsi in Ceramica. In the second part of the magazine, we bring news of several important events, including the opening of the Creative Centre in Milan and a number of new international awards given to Casalgrande Padana. The new Creative Centre, which was recently launched in the heart of the Brera Design District, is designed to promote cultural activities for architects and kicked things off with two cycles of events dedicated to key figures on the international architecture scene, working in collaboration with CASABELLA education. The Casalgrande Padana Old House – which was restored by Kengo Kuma – has won the Brand&Landscape Award 2016 for the way in which it blended architecture and the natural landscape in industrial areas, while the Earth collection by Pininfarina was honoured with the German Design Award. The Marseille Docks, which were designed by 5+1AA’s Alfonso Femia and Gianluca Peluffo, who were among the winners at the 2013-15 edition of the Grand Prix, has received prizes at three prestigious international ceremonies: the MAPIC Awards, the MIPIM Awards and the FX International Interior Design Awards, where Casalgrande Padana’s Diamante line was named best product in the Surfaces category.
