This issue focuses on two projects, among the many entries to the 11th edition of the Grand Prix (2016/2019), which redefine the concept of hospitality and housing. The Miriandhoo Resort, built between land and sea on the coral island of Miriandhoo in the Maldives, was designed by Milan-based studio Peia Associati for Westin, one of Marriott International’s hotel brands. The complex consists of 70 contemporary accommodations that focus on sustainability to protect the fragile ecosystem of the atoll that has been part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2011. Here, Casalgrande Padana tiles alternate with materials created specifically for this project, thereby confirming the environmentally sustainable approach. This way, they help create different atmospheres and sophisticated textural contrasts with the wood used for larger surfaces. Wilmotte & Associés Architects’ interesting co-living project in Ivry-sur-Seine, near Paris, is dedicated to young entrepreneurs who live near Station F, the world’s largest start-up campus. Three dark towers clad with Casalgrande Padana materials become a meeting place that gives co-housing an innovative and contemporary twist. Casalgrande Padana’s dark Granitoker tiles from the Beton collection cover the 7,000 sq.m façade, thereby underlining the monolithic appearance of the architectural composition. Dark and compact materials alternate with the perforated metal railings of the balconies and the large anodised aluminium frames around the windows, which encompass two levels at a time.
