SAN PIO DA PIETRALCINA CHURCH COMPOUND

The building naturally conveys great symbolic strength stemming from the formal complexity of the variable geometry roof, where ceramic materials play an unparalleled role. The unusual cover, recalling famous mosaics in the history of architecture, is reinterpreted from a modern perspective with a fully original stylistic reading and application approach. The project experiments with an unprecedented use of porcelain stoneware. The material was cracked in endless colour-streaked fragments and skilfully repositioned to form a glossy and seamless cover enhancing the plastic value of the building and stabilizing its architectural image. Like soft functional skin, the ceramic cover protects the liturgical hall.
